More than 50 years ago, a young man in his 20's would be seen photographs of the spoils of war. He loved photography and he has a knack for capturing images with a 135mm camera.

That was the time of the post war years when life was difficult and Manila was still reeling from the destruction of World War I. And for this young man, it was likewise difficult to get sufficient supply for his work as a photographer. There was a dearth in the supply of films, making it extremely hard to embark on an extensive photographic documentation of post-war Manila . But then, this man would not simply give up. Instead, he took the problem with a grain of salt. That inspired the young man to look for ways to meet his needs and rest is history.

The man is MR. Yang Koc Le, the chairman of YKL Color Laboratory, the sole distributor of Fujifilm Photographic Products in the Philippines .

His story is that of passion for photography whose flamed continued to burn with same intensity as the first time he got hold on a camera and clicked his way to becoming one of the leaders in the photographic industry. Confronted by the lack of films during the Liberation, the young photographer was determined to find an alternative. "He simply would not accept the fact that there was no available 135mm film. Robert Lim, General Manager of YKL Laboratory and long time friend of Mr. Yang said this prompted MR. Yang to experiment on motion picture films as alternatives. In his small studio, he started to reload motion picture films into 135mm rolls.

The venture was an instant success and in way considered to burn as a pioneering enterprise started by Mr. Yang. Hence, he was able to solve a problem that beleaguered many photographers like him then. Being a photographer by profession and by Mr. Yang devoted all his life to the industry.

Mr. Yang became a leader in the area of "Reloaded" Black and white films from motion picture rolls. Thus, the birth of YKL COLOR LAB. Moreover, he began to expand by distributing other brands of photographic materials and opening outlets that will cater to all photography needs. He negotiated with other photo companies for partnership but talks didn't do well. So, when Fujifilm Japan heard of it, they sent feelers for further association with Mr. Yang's firm, ending up with Mr. Yang winning the distributorship.

Since then YKL became an exclusive distributor of Fujifilm signaling the Fuji-YKL tandem.
More so, Mr. Yang's humble beginning has been his continuing attachment to photography, not only as a supplier but more a support provider for other people.
